Buckner Mission Center

Buckner Mission Center

2008- 5,000 Individuals served

2009 -To Date: 550 Individuals  in a month. (on average)

Buckner Mission Center-  The Buckner Mission Center is open Tuesday & Thursday from 9:00am-11:30 and 1:00pm-3:00pm.  Individuals seeking clothing assistance are able to receive clothing assistance every 3 months.  In the Mission Center guests are able to find men, women, and children’s clothing & shoes; household items, kitchen utensils, hygiene items, diapers, wipes, bedding, and misc items.

Our Mission Center is able to continue to serve our community because of donations from individuals.  We accept new and slightly used clothing.  Through donations from our local Wal-mart Supercenter   guests are able to receive NEW underwear and socks.  (For sanitary purposes these are the only items we request to be new out of the package)

Because we rely on donations to stock our center we could not continue to serve without our wonderful volunteers! Last year we had over 2,000 hours worked in the mission center.

We have volunteers that come  on a regular basis, some once a week, some once a month, and some it is just a one time ministry opportunity held twice a year.  Any help you can offer furthers our goal of ministry here in Longview.

Humanitarian Aid-  During disaster events Buckner Mission Center opens as a humanitarian aid center for Gregg and surrounding counties.  During 2008’s hurricane season we served over 1,500 individuals that had been evacuated to East Texas. The Red Cross is able to focus on shelter and feeding. Buckner is able to provide clothing items that were left behind during the evacuation. Buckner releases information to the media when it has been determined our services are needed.

What can I do to be part of the Mission Center??

Mission Center Volunteer

Volunteer group from Holly Brook Baptist Church Hawkins, TX

1) Assist our guests through the center. Create a pleasant experience for those who come through our doors.

2) Help sort the donations that come into our center.

3) Collect donations from your friends, family, Sunday school class!  When it’s time for “Spring Cleaning” you know where to bring your items!!

4) Diapers, Diapers, Diapers.  We continue to have several families coming in seeking diapers.  collecting at least one Sunday a month would supply the Mission Center with the diapers needed.

5) Traveled  lately?  If you travel collect the travel size items the Mission Center can use them.

6) Have a special ministry project in mind?  Let us know about it!

Buckner Northeast Texas

September 28, 2009

Welcome to Buckner Northeast Texas

Join this movement of ministry to our community.

Welcome to the blog for Buckner Children & Family Services of Northeast Texas.   In this new web-based forum, we’ll have a chance to tell you more about the ministries of Buckner and about ways you can engage with us to serve our community.

Little Hands

Our theme at Buckner is Go. Be. Do.

Go Somewhere. Be a Family. Do Something.

What does this look like?
Maybe you could host an informational meeting for foster care & adoption services; or you might consider participating in our “adopt-a-family” program, providing Christmas assistance for families in our commuity.  Perhaps your church would be interested in taking a mission trip to one of the many countries served by Buckner.  Maybe you need to refer a family for Christian counsleing. Regardless of your gifts or interests, Buckner can help turn an interest in missions into an opportunity.

We hope you’ll take part in the discussion, and let us know what you think.  In the posts to come you will be introduced to the hands, feet, and faces of Buckner’s ministery.
